Preparing your photos for upload

Profile galleries on Outfitlandia are designed to be viewed over the Internet in a variety of browsers. When a picture is uploaded, a program on our server converts it automatically to the most suitable resolution and generates a thumbnail for easy previews.

Most photo cameras are taking pictures of far superior quality then required for our website. Unfortunately such pictures are also very large in size (disk space measured in Megabytes) and resolution (width and height measured in pixels). When adding an outfit to your personal profile the larger the photo, the more you have to wait until it becomes available online.

The current limitations are 2 Megabytes in size and resolutions up to 2048×2048. We strongly advise you against uploading larger images. If you want to resize your photos prior to submitting them, please find below a small how-to about a program named Picasa from Google that is very good at doing that and also free as a matter of fact. You can still use any software or method to achieve the same results – this is intended just as a suggestion.

  1. Download and install Picasa from http://picasa.google.com (you have to choose the right version for your personal computer, be it Windows, Mac OS or Linux)
  2. Follow the instructions on the screen until you open the program successfully. It will try to locate all the pictures on your computer by itself, but you can also choose a particular folder from the menu File/Add Folder to Picasa…
  3. Select all the files you want prepared and click on File/Export Picture to Folder…
  4. Choose a name for the folder where the resized photos will be stored (originals will remain untouched); select the new size (default is 800 pixel, which is fine); optionally add a watermark to mark the images with your name or a copyright notice
  5. Click on OK and wait for the conversion to take place
  6. Upload the resulted images to Outfitlandia.com from the folder specified on step 4

You can learn more about using Picasa to edit your photos and remove common defects like red eyes from the link above. Repeat the steps 3-6 above for the touched-up pictures before uploading them to the website as well.
